Customer Spotlight: July 2017 Purchaser of the Month!

Boyce H. Evans – City of Knoxville, Tennessee

Boyce H. Evans, purchasing agent for the City of Knoxville has been named Vendor Registry’s July 2017 Purchaser of the Month!

Take a look at our brief Q & A session with Boyce for some valuable insight on his career in purchasing and how he and his team make the City of Knoxville purchasing department run so smoothly.

Congratulations, Boyce! We’re grateful to work with you and the City of Knoxville!

How many years have you been in purchasing?

Over 20 years

What are the most challenging aspects of your job?

Striking the right balance between acquiring the goods and services our departments need in a timely manner and saving the city money.

How long have you been with Vendor Registry?

Just short of a year

Why did you choose Vendor Registry?

The City of Knoxville feels that Vendor Registry reaches vendors in other parts of the state (and beyond) which promotes competition and reduces prices. Additionally, we are able to use the Vendor Registry platform to find and seek out DBEs in a manner that we cannot do with our internal software/system.

What do you think is the most valuable feature or capability Vendor Registry provides?

Increasing competition by casting a wider net for more vendors to compete.

What drives your team to success?

Every person is different in terms of what motivates them, but I do think that empowering your team members to make decisions and work with other department heads and business owners is important when considering the motivation factor.

What is one word you would use to describe your team members?

Integrity. In fact, I’d use 3 words: “Integrity Beyond Reproach.”

Huge thanks to Boyce for participating in our Purchaser of the Month award. We’re proud to work with Boyce and his team and look forward to many years of collaboration ahead!
